In the immediate vicinity, there are numerous sacred sites which contain famous art works, such as: the Chiesa di Santa Caterina D'Alessandria, built in 400, which houses frescoes attributed to Graffeo brothers; the Chiesa di San Marco Evangelista, with marvellous stuccoes of the end of the 18th-century and a statue of the Madonna con Bambino of 1510; the Monastero delle Clarisse, with the annexed Liciniana Biblioteca, which contains famous parchments, incunabulum and precious uncommon editions; and the baroque church of Santa Maria della Misericordia, exceptionally rich with its stucco decorations.

The Cathedral, located in the Cathedral square, built in the 17th-century, contains refined works of art, among which a wooden cross from 1484 by Ruzzolone, and a most refined altar from the 1600’s, dedicated to the Immacolata, covered with polychrome marbles.

Behind the Cathedral, and running towards the sea, the Serpentina Paolo Balsamo is found. Here you can admire the marvellous Majolica dome of the Annunziata Church. In addition to this, there is the Baldassare Romano Civico museum, built in 1783. This contains a numismatic collection, including silver and bronze money of Magna Grecia and Romane, together with important finds of the Romanian and Arabic period, as well as paintings, tapestries and other precious objects.

There is also the Termitano Carnival, a very old tradition linked to the story of this city, with the typical masks of "U Nannu ca Nanna", the masks of the most ancient carnival of Sicily.
